For Grant Seekers: Grant Application

General Information For Applicants

All applicants must receive pre-qualification prior to submitting an application.

Pre-qualification will consist of the following:
  1. First-time applicants must contact the Foundation to discuss grant proposals prior to submission.
  2. Letters of inquiry can be emailed to:  kim@cfhoward.org or emerald@cfhoward.org or mailed to Kim Abney, Community Foundation of Howard County, 215 W. Sycamore St., Kokomo, IN 46901.  The letter of inquiry must be completed and contain enough information to enable the Foundation to determine whether the program/project falls within the purview of its grants program. Please include a phone number and email address so these letters of inquiry can receive a prompt response.  If you have any questions, contact Kim Abney, Vice President of Programs, at (765) 454-7298.

Grant applications may be submitted to the Foundation by: see grant cycle. Organizations must submit one electronic pdf file to kim@cfhoward.org or emerald@cfhoward.org that will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Grantmaking Committee.

Upon receipt of the application, the Foundation will confirm to the applicant organization that the application has been received, that the applicant organization may be contacted for additional information, an interview with the Grantmaking Committee, or a site visit if needed, and of the time period within which a grant decision will likely be made.

All requests for grants are reviewed by the Foundation's professional staff and the Grantmaking Committee, which reports to the Foundation's Board of Directors. The Grantmaking Committee discusses requests for funding on a quarterly basis. Each quarter, the committee considers requests for approximately twice the amount of money available to be granted at that time. Staff will encourage any applications beyond that amount to be submitted during the next cycle.

Timing of grants is also taken into consideration. Reviews and recommendations are then presented to the full Board of Directors at its regularly scheduled meetings at which all final grant decisions are made.

All grant applicants will be notified with respect to the grant decisions of the Foundation's Board of Directors. This communication will state whether or not a grant was made and will provide specific details for those grants which have been approved.

The Community Foundation of Howard County will periodically review each grant award and will require a final grant evaluation report from each grantee.
