For Grant Seekers : Grant Application

General Information For Applicants

All applicants must receive pre-qualification prior to submitting an application.

Pre-qualification will consist of the following:
  1. The Community Foundation of Howard County no longer requires organizations that have filled out a grant application in the past five years to attend a community grants meeting. First-time applicants must contact the Foundation to discuss grant proposals prior to submission.
  2. A letter of inquiry addressed to: Kim Abney, Community Foundation of Howard County, Inc., 215 W. Sycamore St., Kokomo, IN 46901, faxed to 765-868-4123, or e-mail letter should contain a brief statement of the applicant's needs for assistance, estimate of total cost of project, and enough factual information to enable the Foundation to determine whether or not the application falls within the purview of its grants program. Please include a phone number and e-mail address so these letters of inquiry can receive a prompt response.

Grant applications may be submitted to the Foundation by: see grant cycle. Organizations must submit one original application, plus the twenty (20) copies required for review by the Grantmaking Committee of the Foundation. Required financial information should be submitted with the original application -- it does not need to be included in the application copies. Upon receipt of the application, the Foundation will confirm to the applicant organization that the application has been received, that the applicant organization may be contacted for additional information, an interview with the Grantmaking Committee, or a site visit if needed, and of the time period within which a grant decision will likely be made.

All requests for grants are reviewed by the Foundation's professional staff and the Grantmaking Committee, which reports to the Foundation's Board of Directors. The Grantmaking Committee discusses requests for funding on a quarterly basis. Each quarter, the committee considers requests for approximately twice the amount of money available to be granted at that time. Staff will encourage any applications beyond that amount to be submitted during the next cycle. Timing of grants is also taken into consideration. Reviews and recommendations are then presented to the full Board of Directors at its regularly scheduled meetings at which all final grant decisions are made.

All grant applicants will be notified with respect to the grant decisions of the Foundation's Board of Directors. This communication will state whether or not a grant was made and will provide specific details for those grants which have been approved. The Community Foundation of Howard County will periodically review each grant award and will require a final evaluation report from each grantee.

Grant Application Procedure

The Community Foundation of Howard County utilizes a formal grant application which can be obtained at the Foundation's office.

Applications which do not contain all of the requested information cannot be considered by the Foundation. To facilitate the preparation of complete grant applications, applicant organizations are encouraged to utilize Community Foundation of Howard County staff assistance which is specifically made available for that purpose. It is the general policy of the Community Foundation of Howard County to operate without discrimination as to age, race, religion, sex or national origin in the overall administration of the Foundation and in the consideration of grant requests from agencies and organizations.
