- About Us
Kelly Karickhoff, Executive Director of the Howard County Historical Society, is what one may think of as "bubbly personality" as her inborn enthusiasm for life and for her work is obvious if you have been around her for more than a few minutes. She is very enthusiastic about the relationship between the Historical Society and the Community Foundation. "We were the first non-profit organization in the county to invest in the Foundation in response to the offer from Lilly Endowment to match gifts to endowed funds within the Foundation that would support local non-profits endowment funds." She believes strongly that many of the members of the Historical Society care very deeply about their community and are naturals for the Foundation to work with to build endowed funds for a wide variety of causes. Some of this natural attraction has already occurred.
The Historical Society feels that it has benefited tremendously from the Foundation's "Building Capacity Program" that was designed to strengthen local non-profit organizations. Kelly said "that program has jump started the Historical Society to a whole new level of energy and effectiveness and we are better able to serve this community because of that program" She also expressed appreciation for several grants from the Foundation that have helped with exhibits or programs of the Museum. "We are natural partners and the partnership is doing good things for this community," Karrickhoff said.
