CARROLL COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS

Nonprofit organizations awarded more than $23,300 in 2014

November 20, 2015 -- The Carroll County Community Foundation has awarded more than $21,000 in competitive grants to Carroll County nonprofit organizations in 2015. The grants are awarded in six areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, civic affairs, health, education and community beautification.

"These grants are made from our community endowment unrestricted funds," said Dr. Paul Manning, chairman of the Carroll County Community Foundation Services Committee. "We are in a match period that will increase our grantmaking capabilities by building our endowment assets. For every $1 given to our community endowment unrestricted funds, Lilly Endowment will match with a $1. A successful match will lead to an additional $40,000 in annual grant dollars that will be put to work in our community. What a great opportunity to have your giving doubled and support the services and programs that are so important to our community."

The following agencies and programs were awarded grants:

$2,500 to the Carroll County Wabash and Erie Canal will be used to produce a marketing brochure. The brochure will highlight information about the park, museum and trails where visitors, historians and canal enthusiasts can visit.

$5,000 to CDC Resources will provide matching support towards the removal and replacement of the roof at the CDC's group home in Delphi.

$3,276 to the Delphi Preservation Society will be used to purchase equipment for the warming kitchen at the Delphi Opera House. This will help to allow the Opera House to serve as a community center and a performing arts venue.

$1,500 to the Delphi Public Library will provide matching support for "The History of the Library: A Visual Exploration" project.  As a proposed project for the Indiana Bicentennial, grant funds will be used to commission a local professional artist to create a historical art display. The project will provide a visually appealing presentation of the library's history and provide valuable information to students, historians and community members.

$650 to the Flora Community Club will provide matching support for the "Bicentennial Pop-Up Gallery" legacy project. Funds will be used for the cost of enlarging and mounting the photographs, typesetting for captions and descriptions, and display easels for use in building store fronts. The theme for 2016 is "Flora History is Indiana History" and is designed to enliven the downtown.

$600 to the Flora-Monroe Twp. Public Library supports the purchase of equipment for the “Local History Digitization” project. The goal is to collect, identify and preserve local interest collections.

$500 to the Friends of Carroll County Parks will be used to restore and paint the West Sonora Arch, one of the few historic sites remaining on the Historic Michigan Road Byway in Carroll County.

$1,500 to Heartland Heritage provides matching support for brochures, interpretive sign fabrication and supplies for a mural drawing at Martin School, a fully restored and furnished National Register one-room school.

$500 to Junior Achievement Serving Carroll County provides matching support for the "JA Our City" program for Carroll and Delphi Community third grade students. The program introduces students to the intersection of financial literacy and social studies objectives, including the characteristics of cities and how people and businesses in cities manage their money.

$5,000 to the Town of Flora provides partial matching support to replace Flora Park’s playground equipment.
