CARROLL COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF GIVING AT FRIENDS OF CARROLL COUNTY EVENT

August 30, 2017 -- Members of the ‘Friends of Carroll County’ gathered recently to celebrate Carroll County Community Foundation’s 20 years of giving.  The Foundation was established in 1997. The dinner took place on Thursday, Aug. 24 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi, Ind.

In his welcome, Dr. Greg Norman, Carroll County Community Foundation board chair, shared some interesting facts about the Foundation. “We have received 3,479 gifts for a total of more than $4.6 million. This includes grants and scholarships awarded to the community of more than $1,143,500.  In addition, $2.8 million has been awarded through the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship program.  Donors have established 71 funds and we have total assets of $4.2 million.”

He also thanked new supporters, longtime supporters and second generation supporters for believing in the foundation way of philanthropy and for their generosity.

As a second generation supporter and daughter of founding board member Jim Huffer, Abby Diener shared why she continues the family legacy of supporting the Foundation. “Donors give to named endowed funds, and grants are awarded from those funds to nonprofit organizations in Carroll County. These organizations offer programs that touch lives. Our donors have created a legacy by making lives better – they have had an impact on the circle of people and things that matter to them.  Isn’t that why we donate our money or volunteer our time to meet unsatisfied needs in the community? Thank you for helping us to create something wonderful.”

During the evening, the Delphi Preservation Society, Carroll County Council on Aging and Adams Mill were selected in a special grant drawing to recognize each organization’s worthwhile work in Carroll County.

The Friends of Carroll County was established as a way for people to support the work of the Community Foundation.

The Carroll County Community Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The purpose of the Foundation is to serve the interests of donors, to make grants and to act as a catalyst around issues of community importance in Carroll County.
