2010 CARROLL COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED
Carroll County Community Foundation awards more than $150,000 in scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year
June 16, 2010 -- The Carroll County Community Foundation has awarded 20 scholarships to Carroll County students with an approximate value of $150,000, including the two Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. The students were recognized at a Scholarship Reception held on June 3 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center, Delphi, Ind. In addition to the scholarship recipients, parents, donors, educators, community volunteers and leaders attended the event in recognition of the efforts of the students.
"Through the generous contributions of the donors, the achievements of the students have been acknowledged and rewarded with these scholarships," said Derek Fisher, Chairman of the Carroll County Community Foundation Board of Directors. "The pressure of paying for college can be a significant obstacle for many students. With these awards, we hope some of the financial weight has been lifted and they can focus on their future career choices."
The students and the scholarships they were awarded are listed below:
John and Kathie Connelly Scholarship
This fund was established in 2009 to support scholarships for students who have earned a varsity letter during their senior year at Delphi Community High School.
Tanner Cripe, son of Kevin and Kimberly Cripe, will attend Hanover College in the fall to study education.
Carolyn S. Gilbert Scholarship
This scholarship is made to graduating high school seniors from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School.
Alix Parrett, daughter of Gary and Giselle Parrett, will be a freshman at Trine University studying psychology.
Indiana Packers Scholarship
This fund was established by the Indiana Packers Corporation to provide scholarships to Carroll County graduates who will be pursuing a degree related to agriculture.
Lorelei Seip, daughter of Scott Seip and Cheryl Seip, will be a freshman at Purdue University in the fall where she will study animal science.
Irving E. Manning Scholarship
This award was established by Joyce Manning and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Manning in memory of her husband and Paul's father, Irving Manning. This fund provides scholarships for students graduating from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School.
Andrew Miller, son of David and Tracy Miller, plans to attend Vincennes University to pursue a degree in fire and paramedic sciences.
Receiving renewal scholarships from the Irving E. Manning Scholarship Fund are:
Benjamin W. Bennington is a 2009 graduate and the son of Shelly and Paul Amich. Benjamin attends Indiana State University.
Nicholas Jones is a 2008 graduate and the son of Troy and Rhonda Jones. Nicholas attends Indiana State University.
Shane Clingenpeel is a 2007 graduate and the son of Kim Clingenpeel. Shane attends Purdue University.
Joan McCain Scholarship
This fund was established by Joan McCain to provide scholarships to students graduating from Delphi Community High School.
Eric Barnard, son of David and Lisa Barnard, plans to attend Purdue University to pursue a degree in general studies.
John and Mary McCormick Agricultural Scholarship
John and Mary McCormick established this fund to provide scholarships for students graduating from Delphi Community High School.
Kristopher Bender, son of Kevin and Denise Bender, plans to attend Purdue University to study agriculture economics.
Mid-North Indiana Executive Committee for Christ Scholarship
The Mid-North Indiana Executive Committee for Christ Scholarship was established for students who have graduated from an accredited Indiana high school, who are residents of Carroll, Cass, or Clinton counties.
Erin Garate, daughter of Cuauhtémoc and Emmalee Garate, will be attending Johnson Bible College to study bible/music ministry and counseling.
Daniel Gascho, son of Gordon and Darla Gascho, is a graduate of Rossville High School. Daniel will attend Purdue University to study animal sciences with a focus on pre-veterinary school requisites.
Katelyn Smith, daughter of Sally Smith, graduated from Clinton Prairie High School. She will be attending Indiana Wesleyan University to pursue a degree in social work and church music.
Lewis and Hazel Mullin Scholarship
This fund provides support to Delphi Community High School graduates who will study at any Indiana college or university.
Nancy Bautista, daughter of Hector Bautista and Eloisa Bautista, plans to attend Ivy Tech Community College and then Indiana University-Kokomo to study early childhood education.
Dorothy Stark Scholarship
Established in 2005 by Dorothy Stark, the fund provides scholarships for students from Jackson Township who will be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary learning.
Kara Schwarzkopf, daughter of Kirk and Lori Schwarzkopf, is a 2010 graduate of Delphi Community High School. She will attend Kansas State University to study pre-veterinary medicine.
Carroll County Community Foundation Scholars
Jared Collins, son of Scot and Sharon Collins, graduated this year from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School and plans to study biology at the University of Southern Indiana.
Hannah Evans, daughter of Shannon Kelly-Evans and Shawn Evans, is a graduate of Delphi Community High School and plans to study education at Butler University.
Kaitlan Harber, daughter of Dale Harber and Cynthia Harber, graduated from Delphi Community High School and plans to study engineering at Purdue University.
Samantha Mayhew, daughter of Tina Johnson and Brad Mayhew, graduated from Delphi Community High School and plans to study pre-medicine at Indiana University.
Lilly Endowment Community Scholars
Jared Kelley, son of Patrick and Kimberly Kelley, is a 2010 graduate from Delphi Community High School. In the fall, Jared will attend Purdue University where he will be pursuing a degree in engineering.
Abigail Reinke, daughter of Jerry and Cindy Reinke, is a 2010 graduate of Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School. She plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University to pursue a degree in exercise science.
