2012 CARROLL COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Carroll County Community Foundation awards more than $101,800 in scholarships for 2012-13 school year

June 8, 2012 -- The Carroll County Community Foundation has awarded 15 scholarships and three renewals to Carroll County students with an approximate value of $101,800, including the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The students were recognized at a scholarship reception held on June 7 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center, Delphi, Ind. In addition to the scholarship recipients, parents, donors, educators, community volunteers and leaders attended the event in recognition of the efforts of the students.

"A lot of students are out working, volunteering and contributing in our communities," said Paul Manning, chairman of the Carroll County Community Foundation Services Committee. "Thanks to our donors, it is gratifying to be able to support our recipients' achievements by helping with the expense of college. These scholarships provide encouragement and motivation to students to pursue higher education."

The students and the scholarships they were awarded are listed below:

Burlington Kiwanis Scholarship

Jacquelyn Tussinger, daughter of Brian and Cynthia Tussinger, is a Carroll High School graduate. She plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to study pre-occupational therapy.

John and Kathie Connelly Scholarship

Kendall Baker, son of Mark and Marsha Baker, is a Delphi Community High School graduate who will be attending Wabash College to study multi-media communications.

Carolyn S. Gilbert Scholarship

Joshua Spray, son of Donald and Margie Spray, is a Carroll High School graduate who plans to attend Ball State University to study business marketing.

Indiana Packers Scholarship

Richard Burns, son of Richard and Beth Burns, is a Carroll High School graduate. Richard plans to attend Butler Community College to obtain his associate’s degree in animal science.

Irving E. Manning Scholarship

Drew McCombs, son of Doug McCombs and Karen Green, is a Carroll High School graduate. Drew plans to attend Purdue University to study graphic design and software engineering.

Receiving renewal scholarships from the Irving E. Manning Scholarship Fund are:

Shelby Spray, a 2011 graduate, and daughter of Don and Margie Spray. Shelby attends the University of Southern Indiana.

Andrew Miller, a 2010 graduate, and son of David and Tracy Miller. Andrew attends Vincennes University.

Benjamin W. Bennington, a 2009 graduate, and son of Shelly and Paul Amich. Benjamin attends Indiana State University.

Joan McCain Scholarship

Ivan Veach, son of Kenny and Susan Hill, is a Delphi Community High School graduate. Ivan plans to attend Grace College.

John and Mary McCormick Agricultural Scholarship

Karson Bender, son of Kevin and Denise Bender, is a Delphi Community High School graduate. Karson plans to attend Purdue University.

Mid-North Indiana Executive Committee for Christ Scholarship

Kendall Baker, son of Mark and Marsha Baker, is a Delphi Community High School graduate and will be attending Wabash College to study multi-media communications.

Taylor Crenshaw, daughter of Bruce and Tonya Crenshaw, is a Clinton Central High School graduate and will be attending Purdue University to study English and Spanish.

Melanie Shrontz, daughter of Mike and Missy Shrontz, is a Pioneer High School graduate and will be attending Butler University to study pre-medicine or biology.

Lewis and Hazel Mullin Scholarship

Tiffany Wright is a Delphi Community High School graduate who will be attending Indiana State University to study psychology.

Dorothy Stark Scholarship

Caitlin Schock, daughter of Mark and Christy Schock, is a Delphi Community High School graduate. She plans to attend Indiana University to study nursing.

Carroll County Community Foundation Scholars

Kate Hickner, daughter of Pat and Barb Hickner, is a graduate of Carroll High School. She will be attending St. Joseph's College in the fall to study elementary education.

Alyx Maxwell, daughter of James and Charlene Maxwell, is a graduate of Delphi Community High School and will attend Purdue University. Her course of study is undecided.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholar

Angela Meador, daughter of Leonard and Karen Meador, is a Rossville Senior High School graduate. Angela plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University to study nursing.
