2011 CARROLL COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

Carroll County Community Foundation awards more than $58,000 for 2011-12 school year

June 10, 2011 -- The Carroll County Community Foundation has awarded 16 scholarships and three renewals to Carroll County students with an approximate value of $58,000, including the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The students were recognized at a scholarship reception held on June 2 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center, Delphi, Ind. In addition to the scholarship recipients, parents, donors, educators, community volunteers and leaders attended the event in recognition of the efforts of the students.

"These recipients are a good match with the donor expectations of supporting students who have set and met high standards in high school and will continue to strive for excellence in college," said Paul Manning, chairman of the Carroll County Community Foundation board of directors. "The scholastic, community and work effort shown by each student is impressive. We hope these scholarships will help them to concentrate on school and ease the focus on finances."

The students and the scholarships they were awarded are listed below:

John and Kathie Connelly Scholarship

Austin Hawn, son of David and Julie Hawn, is a Delphi Community High School graduate. Austin will attend Wabash College to study biology.

Roy L. Crume Scholarship

Sarah Lively, daughter of Matthew and Cami Lively, will attend Brown College studying to become a veterinary technician.

Carolyn S. Gilbert Scholarship

Molly Jewell, daughter of Rodney and Diane Jewell, is a Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School graduate. Molly will be attending Grace College to study elementary education.

Indiana Packers Scholarship

Tony Ashenfelter is the son of David Ashenfelter and Kristina Smith and a graduate of Carroll High School. He plans to attend Ivy Tech Community College to study livestock management.

Irving E. Manning Scholarship

Margaret 'Shelby' Spray is the daughter of Don and Margie Spray and a Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School graduate. Shelby will study psychology at the University of Southern Indiana this fall.

Receiving renewal scholarships from the Irving E. Manning Scholarship Fund are:

Andrew Miller is a 2010 graduate and the son of David and Tracy Miller. Andrew attends Vincennes University.

Benjamin W. Bennington is a 2009 graduate and the son of Shelly and Paul Amich. Benjamin attends Indiana State University.

Nicholas Jones is a 2008 graduate and the son of Troy and Rhonda Jones. Nicholas attends Indiana State University.

Joan McCain Scholarship

Lori Ann Brubaker is the daughter of Blaine and Brenda Brubaker and a Delphi Community High School graduate. She plans to attend Indiana University Kokomo to study fine arts.

John and Mary McCormick Agricultural Scholarship

Nick Zink is the son of Jon and Kathy Zink and a Delphi Community High School graduate. Nick plans to study agri-business.

Mid-North Indiana Executive Committee for Christ Scholarship

Chelsea Flores, daughter of Elizabeth Flores, is a Delphi Community High School graduate and will be attending Indiana University to study biology.

Kyleigh Renick, daughter of Gregory and Carla Renick, is a Frankfort High School graduate and will be attending Ball State University to study special education.

Brittany Ruff, daughter of Terry and Lisa Ruff, is a graduate of Pioneer High School and will be attending the International Business College to become a veterinary technician.

Lewis and Hazel Mullin Scholarship

Nick Zink is the son of Jon and Kathy Zink and a Delphi Community High School graduate. Nick plans to study agri-business.

Dorothy Stark Scholarship

Lori Ann Brubaker is the daughter of Blaine and Brenda Brubaker and a Delphi Community High School graduate. She plans to attend Indiana University Kokomo to study fine arts.

Carroll County Community Foundation Scholars

Erika Matricia, daughter of Gary and Kayuri Matricia, and a graduate of Delphi Community High School will be attending Purdue University in the fall to study pharmacy.

Margaret 'Shelby' Spray, daughter of Don and Margie Spray, is a graduate of Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School and will study psychology at the University of Southern Indiana.

Trexie Wolfs, daughter of Nell Purdy and stepdaughter of Michael Purdy, is a graduate of Rossville High School. Trexie will attend Purdue University and her course of study is undecided at this time.

Lilly Endowment Community Scholar

Ashley Gray, daughter of Patricia Gray and Thomas Gray, is a graduate of Delphi Community High School. Ashley will attend Purdue University and plans to become a physician's assistant.
