HILDA BURNS NAMED PRESIDENT OF THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HOWARD COUNTY

August 2, 2012 — Hilda Burns has been named president of the Community Foundation of Howard County. In addition to this role, Burns will serve as president of the Carroll County Community Foundation and the Clinton County Community Foundation.

Burns began working as a finance/accounting administrator for the Community Foundation and the United Way of Howard County in 1994. At that time, the Foundation served Howard County and had eighteen funds with total assets of approximately $500,000. In 1998, Burns became the vice president of the Foundation.

Currently, the Foundation serves the three counties and has a total of more than 400 funds with assets of $43 million.

Her work with the Foundation has included financial management, grantmaking and scholarship programs, and working to advise, assist and educate donors to help them achieve their grantmaking goals and to create a legacy.

"We are excited to announce that Hilda Burns will take over as the new president of the Community Foundation," said Dana Davis, board chair of the Community Foundation of Howard County. "She is an integral part of the Foundation and her expertise and foresight will help us to continue to grow and positively impact the communities we serve. She has worked to build relationships with our donors, nonprofits and community members to increase the impact of the Foundation and our donors in the community. Her level of expertise and integrity make this a natural transition and we are pleased she has accepted this new role."

Prior to her work in the not-for-profit sector, Burns worked in several accounting and office management positions for a variety of businesses in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Her educational studies include accounting and financial management at West Tennessee Business College, Jackson, Tenn., and Indiana University at Kokomo.

Burns is a member of St. Joan of Arc Church, a board member of the Kokomo Public Schools Education Foundation and has served as a volunteer for numerous charitable organizations. She is also a member of the Finance Committee of Indiana Grantmakers Alliance.

Burns is replacing Ron Harper, who retired from the Community Foundation at the end of July. Harper joined the Foundation as president in 1999.
