COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MEETS HIGHEST STANDARD FOR PHILANTHROPIC EXCELLENCE

January 5, 2021 – The Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties was recently notified that it has again met the nation’s highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability.

National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations is an accreditation program that establishes legal, ethical effective practices for community foundations. This is the fifth time the Foundation has met these standards. The first accreditation was met in 2006 and accreditation has been maintained ever since.

The National Standards program is led by the Council on Foundations. The program requires community foundations to document their policies for donor services, investment, grantmaking and administration and provides quality assurance to donors, as well as to their legal and financial advisors. 

“This recertification is a good opportunity to take a comprehensive look at our policies and procedures,” said Greg Aaron, president of the Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties.  “We strive to achieve excellence in community philanthropy and National Standards confirms for our donors and supporters that they can be confident that our procedures are operationally and legally sound.  It is a rigorous process and provides a framework for best practices as we work to honor the charitable wishes of our donors.”

The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations Board is a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations and is responsible for the quality, value and integrity of compliance with National Standards. The Community Foundation of Howard County Inc. was formed as a not-for-profit public charity in March 1991.
