COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HOWARD COUNTY ANNOUNCES 2022 LILLY ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
April 12, 2022 -- Isaac Elkin has been named a recipient of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship as a Community Foundation of Howard County 2022 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
“We are announcing Isaac Elkin as a recipient because one of our earlier recipients, Chloe McKay, had another opportunity for financial support,” said Joe Dunbar, chairman of the Community Foundation of Howard County Scholarship Committee. “As part of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship process, we must submit alternates when we send the information to the Independent Colleges of Indiana for approval and administration. When we were notified that Chloe had accepted another opportunity, the selection opened up for the alternate to receive the scholarship.”
Isaac is the son of Matt and Hillarie Elkin and is a Kokomo High School student. He is the captain of the Dive Team and a member of the Swim Team and Tennis Team. In diving, Isaac was a two-time conference diving champion. As a member of the Track and Field Team, he participates in hurdles, middle distance and pole vault. Isaac has participated in cross county for four years and is senior year co-captain. During the summer, he participates in baseball. Isaac also is a member of Boys Legion, National Honor Society, Student Council, 4-H and Boy Scouts of America.
Isaac plans to attend Taylor University to study computer science.
The Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1998-1999 school year and has supported the program every year since with tuition grants totaling in excess of $439 million. Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private philanthropic foundation created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly Sr. and his sons Eli and J.K. Jr. through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. Although the gifts of stock remain a financial bedrock of the Endowment, it is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with the founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education and religion. The Endowment funds significant programs throughout the United States, especially in the field of religion. However, it maintains a special commitment to its founders’ hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
