COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HOWARD COUNTY CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY

25 years of connecting donors and causes to produce a positive and sustainable change

Jan. 29, 2016 -- Throughout 2016, the Community Foundation of Howard County will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in the community. The idea of a community foundation in Howard County was started in 1989 with $10,000 from the United Way of Howard County and the Community Foundation of Howard County was incorporated on March 6, 1991.

In 25 years, the number of funds the Foundation manages has grown to more than 250 with assets totaling more than $30 million. The generosity of donors has allowed the Foundation to award grants of more than $8.4 million and more than $1.44 million in scholarships, including $3 million in Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. These grants and scholarships connect donors and causes to produce a positive and sustainable change in the community.

An anniversary is a time to share with friends. Celebration plans include supporting nonprofit organizations that are so vital in serving our community. This support will include giving $25,000 to nonprofit organizations in Howard County through a series of $1,000 drawings during the year. Each month two nonprofit names will be drawn "from a hat" at various venues.

The first drawing venue will take place Feb. 8 at the United Way of Howard County’s annual meeting.  The second drawing is scheduled for Feb. 13 at the Kokomo Community Concert’s "California Dreamin" event.

"This is a great way to begin the celebration as the Community Foundation of Howard County was started as an idea shared by a few community-minded individuals and led by the United Way," said Hilda Burns, president of the Community Foundation of Howard County. "The $25,000 in support of nonprofits is a way to share our excitement about the strength of philanthropy in the community. This milestone could not have been achieved without our donors and the organizations that partner with us."

The Community Foundation also has two affiliates: the Carroll County Community Foundation and the Clinton County Community Foundation.  These affiliates bring the total assets managed by the Foundation to more than $55 million, further strengthening the charitable services in Howard, Carroll and Clinton counties.

The Community Foundation of Howard County, Inc. was formed as a not-for-profit public charity in March 1991. The Foundation seeks to serve donors and make grants to benefit the citizens of Howard County.  For more information about the Community Foundation, contact Hilda Burns at 765-454-7298 or hilda@cfhoward.org.
