COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HOWARD COUNTY INTRODUCES 'LEGACY SOCIETY' TO NONPROFIT BOARD MEMBERS
Carver Community Center, Bridges Outreach and Howard Regional Health System Foundation win monetary awards to be placed in the organizations' endowed fund at the Foundation
October 21, 2010 — Carver Community Center, Bridges Outreach and Howard Regional Health System Foundation walked away winners from the Community Foundation of Howard County's "Legacy Society" lunch held Oct. 14 at the Kokomo Country Club. Through a special monetary drawing, Carver Community Center received $5,000, Bridges Outreach received $3,000 and Howard Regional Health System Foundation received $2,000 to be placed in each organization's endowed fund at the foundation. More than 15 nonprofit organizations attended the lunch and were eligible for the drawing if they had five or more board members in attendance.
"The Carver Community Center staff and board would like to extend our thanks for the opportunity to ensure Carver's legacy through the $5,000 endowment," said Robert Hayes, president of the Carver Community Center board of directors.
The foundation established the Legacy Society to encourage estate planning to strengthen and provide permanent financial stability for a variety of funds established by donors to support charitable endeavors that benefit the community. Currently, 40 nonprofit organizations are supported by endowed funds that were established through the generosity of donors.
In addition to providing community support through endowed funds, the Foundation offers a free will planning guide that is designed to help individuals as they prepare to work with their estate planning advisors. Contact the Community Foundation of Howard County at 765-454-7298 or visit the Web site at www.cfhoward.org for a free copy of the will planning guide. Foundation staff members are also available to work with individuals and advisors to answer any questions about considering a charitable organization as a recipient of a gift in a will.
The Community Foundation of Howard County Inc. was formed as a not-for-profit public charity in March 1991. The foundation seeks to serve donors and make grants to benefit the citizens of Howard County.
