CARROLL COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS
Nonprofit organizations awarded $14,935 in 2016
The Carroll County Community Foundation has awarded $14,935 in competitive grants to Carroll County nonprofit organizations in 2016. The grants are awarded in six areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, civic affairs, health, education and community beautification.
"Carroll County has a variety of interests and projects to support," said Dr. Paul Manning, chairman of the Carroll County Community Foundation Services Committee. "These grants are awarded from our community endowment unrestricted funds that donors have contributed to with the intent to support needs that benefit the citizens of Carroll County now and in the future. We are grateful for our donors' foresight and generosity that ensures continued support for the community."
The following agencies and programs were awarded grants:
$1,000 to the Burlington Community Library provides partial support to purchase a computer, printer, software and barcode scanner. The upgrade will allow for more efficient managing, documenting and processing of the library's inventory of books and other media. With the updated capabilities, the intent is to explore the possibility of using the internet to communicate with patrons through a user friendly website.
$1,385 to the Carroll County Community Center will be used to purchase a commercial treadmill.
$3,500 to Carroll County Council on Aging will be used to purchase kitchen cabinets, counter tops and sinks for the Senior/Community Center in Delphi. The Center will be used for senior activities and meals. The facility will be available to rent for private and group functions and meetings.
$2,500 to the Carroll County Wabash and Erie Canal will provide partial support to construct an interactive exhibit portraying a "train running circles around a canal boat" to illustrate how speed of travel influenced the public's view on choices of travel and hauling goods for canal boats vs. railroad transportation.
$2,000 to the Delphi Preservation Society will provide partial support to purchase furniture for the Archives Room at the Delphi Opera House. Items needed for the project include oak file cabinets, oak book cases, leather club chairs and a computer desk.
$550 to the Flora Community Club/Flora Main Street will provide funding support for the "Flora Depot Marketing" project. Flora Main Street will work with The Arts Guild and Carroll High School art students to design a logo and an informational brochure.
$3,500 to Promote Wildcat Valley provides funding for the "American House Stagecoach Hotel" restoration project. The revitalized building will be transformed into a museum that will house artifacts important to the community. Grant money will help to purchase and install a new efficient furnace and air conditioner.
$500 to the White County Historical Society provided partial support for the "Honor Our Military" 12th annual Proud to be an American Patriotic Board Parade.
The Carroll County Community Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of local citizens.
