'FRIENDS OF CARROLL COUNTY' HONORED AT EVENT

Community Foundation of Carroll County supporters see benefits from contributions

August 29, 2013 -- Members of the 'Friends of Carroll County' a special group of contributors who support the work of the Carroll County Community Foundation participated in a dinner celebration event Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi, Ind.

As part of the evening, the donors learned how Foundation grants have helped nonprofit organizations in Carroll County.

Kelly Currie, Delphi Public Library, shared that the first grant awarded provided support for an afterschool activities program that centered on character education and development. Currie stepped through a wide range of library programs that have received grants. These included a music program series, GED enrollment assistance, youth theatre performances and the digitization of newspaper archives.

Adams Mill board president Al Auffart highlighted how a grant for marketing material helped to build a successful campaign that shared the heritage of Carroll County.  Auffart told the group how important it is to get the attention of the youngsters who tour the mill, and that the Foundation provided funding for an interactive exhibit that helps the children retain what they learned.

Jim Payne represented the Carroll County Community Center. Payne shared that there were 20,000 visits to the facility in 2012 and that a grant to purchase software to track membership has helped with programming.  The Center also receives annual grants from designated endowment funds that were established to provide income forever.  "The Foundation allows flexibility in the application process for grants that help our facility," said Payne.  "We are very appreciative for what you have allowed us to do.  We are grateful for those of you who provide for a legacy through the Foundation."

Hilda Burns, president of the Carroll County Community Foundation, recognized Mr. and Mrs. Richard Roach, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Robeson and Mr.& Mrs. Derek Fisher/Fisher & Associates for graduating from a Legacy Fund starter to permanent endowment funds in the Foundation. She also recognized the start of a new Legacy Fund that will benefit the Flora United Methodist Church.

"We thank the donors who took a chance to start and build up a fund within the Foundation," said Burns.  "This is a good example of how you make a contribution, build a fund and provide financial support for great projects."

Legacy Funds can be established with a gift of $1,000 and are intended to grow to the $12,500 minimum over a period of six years.

The Friends of Carroll County was established as a way for supporters to provide funds towards operational expenses.
