CLINTON COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS

Non-profit organizations awarded more than $105,000 during first half of 2011

August 3, 2011 — The Clinton County Community Foundation has awarded more than $105,000 in competitive grants during the first half of 2011.

"The contributions donors have made allow us to support a variety of organizations and programs," said Debbie Graves, chairman of the Clinton County Community Foundation Board of Directors. "In order for a community to prosper, access to services should be readily available to consumers. Donors help to create sustainability and the organizations assure that the changing needs of the community are met. We are fortunate to be able to support these services through our competitive grants. We offer our thanks to the donors, committee members and organizations who participate in this process."

The following agencies and programs were awarded grants:

Up to $22,000 to Abilities Services will provide support for the purchase of two, used, fuel efficient mini-vans for use by consumers (individuals with a developmental disability) in the Day Services Program. Day program staff is responsible for transporting consumers to community activities. The new vans will require less fuel, need less maintenance and allow greater flexibility for the consumers utilizing the vehicles.

$3,153 to the Clinton County Boys and Girls Club provides partial support for expanding the Triple Play program outdoors. The funding will be used to purchase equipment that can be used for outdoor recreational activities and for fruits/vegetables and fertilizer to be used in the Children's Garden. Triple Play takes a holistic and comprehensive approach to helping members make healthy "mind, body and soul" choices.

$11,492 to the Clinton County Family YMCA will provide support for summer maintenance projects. Grant funds will be used to replace an air conditioner compressor, resurface wood floors and purchase a scrubber to maintain the surface of the facility's wood floors.

$5,720 to the Clinton County Commissioners for the Clinton County Sheriff's Department will provide partial support for the implementation of the "Thinking for a Change" program. This nationally recognized cognitive behavioral curriculum is designed to rehabilitate persons who have been convicted of crimes, thus increasing their ability to become productive citizens and reducing the recidivism rate of offenders.

$6,314 to the Frankfort Community Public Library will provide funding support for the "Check Up — Check Out!" early literacy program. The funds will be used to print early literacy brochures, books, coupons and for marketing efforts. Six local pediatricians and family physicians will distribute brochures highlighting early literacy activities that parents can perform with their children, as well as a coupon for an age-appropriate book. The coupon can be redeemed at the library based on the child's wellness check up appointments. The purpose of the program is to increase the number of children prepared and ready to learn when they enter school.

$1,289.85 to the Humane Society of Clinton County will be used to purchase a large capacity washer and dryer and a new printer/copier/scanner/fax and cartridges.

$7,570 to the On Stage Foundation will be used for a replacement of roof and painting project at the Red Barn Summer Theatre. The funds will be used for roofing and painting supplies. The Red Barn Summer Theatre provides a cultural venue for Clinton County and other surrounding counties throughout the summer months.

$28,000 to the Paul Phillippe Senior Resource Center will be used to purchase windows for the building and build an enclosure for the handicapped accessible door. The enclosure will allow patrons to be sheltered from the rain and snow as they enter the building, and it provides easier access for individuals being let out from a vehicle.

$20,000 to Quinton's House will provide support for remodeling the facility and equipment needed for forensic interviewing of victims of physical and/or sexual abuse. Quinton's House is an effort among local law enforcement, the Clinton County Prosecutor's Office and the local Department of Child Services to help reduce or prevent further trauma to the victim by establishing a safe and neutral interviewing environment.
