SCHOLARSHIP HONORS JUDY AND DENNIS SCHULTE
Family Starts Scholarship Fund at Community Foundation of Howard County
April 8, 2013 — A scholarship fund honoring Dennis and Judy Schulte's lifelong dedication to education has been started at the Community Foundation of Howard County. The 'Judy and Dennis Schulte Scholarship Fund for Future Teachers' was created by the family as a way to continue the Schulte's commitment to their students and community.
Scholarships from this fund will be available to students graduating from Kokomo High School, Northwestern High School and Western High School who will be majoring in education.
"As educators Dennis and Judy had the opportunity to be a positive influence in so many lives," said Hilda Burns, president of the Community Foundation of Howard County. "Judy volunteered as a member of our scholarship committee and we saw her help a lot of students when she worked with us in our scholarship program. My children attended Western and they benefited from Dennis' teaching skills and kindness, so we are pleased to have this scholarship fund administered through the Foundation."
The Schulte's were killed March 25, 2013, in Seattle Wash., while visiting family. Judy Schulte retired as Northwestern High School's guidance director in 2008 after 19 years, and Dennis Schulte taught math at and retired from Western High School in 2006 after 33 years. He also served as Western's assistant coach for the wrestling squad and football team.
